This brief summary illustrates some program features and the existing differences between various versions of Uranium Backup:
Free (freeware)
Backup through direct copy or with zip compression on local/network hard drives, NAS servers, REV/RDX drives, external USB/Firewire/SATA hard drives, network computers, ISO files creation, etc...
Limitations compared to Base version:
it can't make disk imaging backup (disaster recovery), no support for CD/DVD/Blu-Ray burning, it cannot make FTP backup, it hasn't the possibility of deleting old files (synchronization), it can't be run as a Service, it cannot create zip files bigger than 4 GB (Zip64), no technical support.
Base
Compared to the Freeware version it allows to make disk imaging backup (disaster recovery: Vista, 2008/R2, 7), CD/DVD/Blu-Ray burning, FTP backup (upload and download) and e-mail backup, it can create zip files bigger than 4 GB, it can run as a Service, it can make file deletion (synchronization) and has the auto-update feature.
Pro Tape
It has all the features of the Base version with in addition the Tape Backup functions. It supports practically any tape drive (SCSI, USB, SAS, etc...) and the most used types of tape cartridges: DAT, DDS, DLT, SDLT, AIT, LTO, etc...
Pro SQLIt has all the features of the Base version with in addition the possibility to make backups and restores of MS SQL Server databases (versions 7.0, 2000, 2005, 2008/R2, Express Edition). It allows to configure and schedule an unlimited number of backups and restores of local or remote servers, without any service interruption. Integrated data compression and strong encryption.
Pro ShadowIt has all the features of the Base version with in addition the capability to copy locked/open files using Volume Shadow Copy. It also allows to make hot backups of running virtual machines on Windows hosts (Hyper-V backup, VMware Player backup).
Pro VirtualIt has all the features of the Base version with in addition the capability to copy any open/locked file and the backup of VMware ESXi/ESX/vSphere virtual machines. It allows to make hot backups of running virtual machines on Windows hosts (Hyper-V backup, VMware Player backup).
GoldFull version: it includes all the features of other versions, with in addition the capability to copy locked/open files using Volume Shadow Copy. It also allows to make hot backups of running virtual machines (Hyper-V backup, VMware backup).
