How to copy open or locked files with Volume Shadow Copy (Open File Backup)
With the Pro Shadow, Pro Virtual and Gold version of Uranium Backup you can
copy also locked files. With "locked files" we mean those files opened in exclusive mode by other programs,
like virtual machine files (Hyper-V, VMWare Player, ecc...), database files, systems files, Outlook .pst files, Exchange Server files, etc...
In order to copy these files, Uranium uses a Windows service named
"Volume Shadow Copy".
Uranium can automatically manage shadow copy services, and so you simply need to set the option shown in the image below:
In the Backup Set options panel, in the first panel "General Options",
select the option "Use Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) for copying locked files". Apply this setting with the relative button and the program will be able to copy
any locked or system files.
Requirement: on Windows Vista, Windows 2008
Server and Windows 7, in order to use Volume Shadow Copy it is necessary to run
Uranium as Administrator or install the Uranium service.
