Download a website using the FTP backup functions
Uranium Backup is able to make several download and upload operations of any file
and folder, in a simple and powerful manner.
These features can result extremely useful to make backups to remote servers (with
possibility of zip compression and encryption), to make the upload, and so the automatic
update, of entire web sites, or, like in the example below, to make the download
of the entire content of a website or other data on a web server.
FTP functions are available starting from the Base version.
Let's see below the simple steps to configure an FTP donwload:
Backup set creation:
In order to create new Backup Set, if there aren't other Backup Sets
previously created,
you have to click on the link shown in the image, then specify a name and click the
button "Apply". If there are already other Backup Sets, you have to open the "File" menu and click the item "Create New Backup Set".
Adding an FTP Download item (a folder where the files will be downloaded to):
With this operation we will add in the items' list the folder where we want to
download the website or other data located on the FTP server.
First of all you have to specify the path of the local folder where the download
will be performed, then you have to set the authentication data to access the
FTP server.
Then click on the button "Next".
In the next panel (image above), you have to specify the path of the folders you
want to download. You can add in the list all the folders you want, typing their
paths manually or selecting them directly on the FTP server using the integrated
FTP client, like you can see in the image below:
If you want to download the whole website, you simply need to add as a folder
the "\" character (that indicates the root folder).
You can do that using the button "Add manually".
For each folder inserted in the list you can decide if include or exclude its
subfolders or if set a filter to exclude or include some file extensions.
Once you added the folders you want to downalod, click on the button "Next" to
go to the last panel:
The last option you can set is about the possibility to copy the local folder
(containing the downloaded folders) in the Backup Set destinations. For example,
you can copy the downloaded folders to aa tape device or burn them to DVD or
Blu-Ray discs, immediately after the download.
Finally click on the button "OK" to apply all the settings.
The folder will be inserted in the items' list and it will be marked with a blue
arrow, like shown in the image below.
Running of the Backup Set:
In order to start the backup you simply have to click on the Backup Set name
with mouse right button and then on the menu item "Run selected Backup Set".
Once the download has been completed, the program will copy the item on the
Backup Set destinations, if you set the relative option.
To modify the FTP Download settings, you simply have to click on the item with
mouse right button and then on the menu voice "Add / Modify / Delete FTP
Download ".
Please note: for the FTP download are valid the same options used for the
FTP upload, that mainly regards the various overwriting options. By default
Uranium will download only the files that are newer than the local files. This
behavior can be modified in the Backup Set options, "FTP Transfers" section.
