Online Backup with FTP / SFTP upload
Uranium Backup can make a number of upload and download tasks, of any kind of file, in a simple and reliable manner, from and to FTP / SFTP servers (also
Linux).
Through a common internet connection you can make backups to remote servers (with
zip compression and encryption capabilities) or you can make uploads, and therefore
the periodic update, of entire websites.
The FTP features are available starting from the Base version.
Let's see the simple steps to configure an online backup:
1 - Backup Set creation:

In order to create a new Backup Set, if the program have been just installed and
there aren't other Backup Sets already created, you must click on the link shown
in the image, then specify a name and click the "Apply" button. If other Backup
Sets already exist, you must simply open the "File" menu and click the item "Create
New Backup Set".
2 - Adding of the items of which you want to do the online
backup:
With this operation we will add the folders and/or the files (that we want to transfer
to the remote FTP server) to the list of the items. In order to add a folder you
must proceed like in the image: in the section "Items and Destinations" you must
click on the link "Click here to add...", then select the folder and click on the
button "OK".
The folder will be added in the list of the items like shown in the image below:

3 - Adding of the FTP / SFTP destination:

In order to add an FTP destination, let's click on the link shown in the image above
or on the correspondant menu item and select the item "Add an FTP/SFTP server destination".
We can see in the image below how to configure all the data for the FTP destination:

First of all we must set the connection data: the server address, the port, the
user name and the password. We can also decide if use the passive mode (required
in some particular cases only) or if use the SFTP protocol (SSH 2 FTP: depending
on the FTP server type, that must support this protocol).
The port to use, except particular cases, is always the 21 (or the 22 if the SFTP
is used).
In most cases will not be used the passive mode neither the SFTP protocol.
Another important thing to set is the subfolder on the destination server where
we want to copy our files
If we want to copy our files on the FTP site root directory we must simply set the
slash "/".
If instead we want to store our files in a specific folder, we can select it clicking
on the button "Select by FTP Client": it will be opened the Uranium FTP Client,
that will allow to us to browse the folders on the remote server. Once we entered
in the desired folder, it will be simply necessary to click the button "Select"
shown in the image below:

Once we have set all the options, we must click on the "Apply" button to memorize
them and close the window. We will be able to modify at any time this destination
simply right-clicking on it and then clicking the menu item "Modify FTP Destination".
An FTP destination will be shown in the list like we can see in the image below:

4 - Zip compression and/or Encryption:
For each FTP destination we can decide if compress files and folders in a single
zip file before the sending, and also if encrypt the zip file or protect it with
a password. In order to access the compression options we must simply do a double-click
on the destination:

Finally, in the Backup Set compression options, it is possible to set other zip
specific options, like the protection password, the compression level, etc...
5 - Backup Set execution:
In order to start the backup it will be simply necessary to right-click on the Backup
Set name and select the item "Run selected Backup Set".
During the backup process the programm will show all the information regarding the
backup progress:the number of copied files, the total size of the data, etc...
6 - How to browse the online files and restore them:
In order to see the remote files after the transfer we can use the FTP Client. Like
shown in the image below, we must simply click with the right button on the FTP
destination and then click the item "Restore from FTP (explore destination)":

The FTP client, will show the content of the remote folder, allowing to browse all
the subfolders. To recuperate a file or a folder, you will simply need to select
them and download them again in the local computer, using the proper buttons or
dragging them from the right to the left in the desired local folder.
Please note: for the file upload
tasks Uranium provides some options similar to that available for local direct copy,
mainly regarding the file overwriting behaviour. By default the program will transfer
only files newer than the correspondant remote files (in case we are copying the
files directly without zip compressiom). This behaviour can be changed in the Backup
Set options, panel "Direct copy / FTP", sub-panel "FTP Transfers".
