How to schedule and run Uranium through Windows Scheduled Tasks
Uranium Backup is able to execute several concurrent backup processes,
also of different type. This feature allow to overlap the scheduling of several
backups and so to reduce considerably the execution time when we need to execute
more operations at the same time.
Moreover it is possible to esecute Uranium Backup as it be an nt service
(in background and even if no user is logged in), simply scheduling the backups
through Windows Scheduled Tasks.
Note: starting from version 7, Uranium Backup has the possibility
of running as a native nt service, and so it no longer needs the Windows Scheduled
Tasks to make the things described in this article. For more information about installing
and running the service please check this tutorial.
In this tutorial we will see how to configure this two features.
First, it is necessary to select the option to allow the multi-task execution.
In order to do this, we must open the general options window and then go in the
panel "Execution", like shown in the image below:

Like we can see in the image above, it is necessary to select the option "Allow
the execution of multiple instances of the software" and click the button "OK".
Then let's go to see how to create a Windows Scheduled Task for a specific
Backup Set:

It is necessary to open the scheduling panel of the backup set, deactivate the integrated
scheduling, and then click on the button "Create / Modify Windows Scheduled Task".
This button will be necessary also to modify a previously created scheduled task.
The program will ask for a user name and a password to use for the creation and
the execution of the scheduled task.
After we inserted the user name and the password (it is always recommended to use
an administrative user), let's click on the button OK. The scheduled task will be
created and its configuration window will be opened. Let's see the most important
panels of it in the images below:

In the image above we can see the command line that execute our backup set and the
username with which the task will be executed.

In this second panel we can see instead the downright scheduling, where we can choose
if execute the task every day, in specific week days or month days, etc...
In addition we can specify the exact execution time.
In order to esecute multiple tasks (for example in the same days but in different
times) we can see bottom the option "Show multiple schedules".
N.B.: all scheduled tasks can be viewed / modified / deleted / suspended also from
the Windows Control Panel in the folder "Scheduled Tasks".
Conclusions
Using Windows Scheduled tasks, in conjunction with the options shown above for the
multi-task execution, we can execute several concurrent and/or overlapped backup
operations. In fact we can create a specific task for each backup
set.
The versatility of this kind of configuration is practically unlimited. For example
we can execute the backup of an sql server database and, at the same time, a website
upload, copy a folder to two or more external
hard drives at the same time, or to
several network computers, burn some data to DVD and, at the same time, copy them
to tape, etc...
Finally, the program execution through a scheduled task allows to run it as an nt
service (and so even if no user is logged in). Another advantage is that you can
avoid to have the program always in memory, because it is executed and terminated
automatically at each backup operation.
